The Thule T2 Classic 2 is a bicycle rack built for two. This durable bike tray that hitches to a back bumper or a roof rack fits bike wheel sizes up to 20 inches, which means it can support mountain bikes, hybrids, and commuter bikes with very fat wheels. This rack’s adjustability makes this bike rack a top choice for anyone who wants to take their bikes out on the road. It has a maximum weight load tolerance of 120 lbs. which means it is strong enough to support an electric bike, even though the only thing holding the bike securely in place is a two-part brace that wedges the front wheel in a groove. A strap is provided to keep the second wheel in place even though the spin knob that tightens the front wedge that holds the front wheel is enough to keep the bike stable. Our Thule T2 Classic review also found that this bicycle rack fits a number of aftermarket and OEM roof rails without any issues, except you need to get out your heavy-duty tools to assemble it.

Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Rack Review

The black Thule T2 classic is a platform carrier that clamps your front bike wheel to a rack without touching the frame. This is also known as a tray-style carrier. You can also use one or two t plastic holding straps to keep the bike even more secure.

Thule T2 Classic Review - Take Bikes Everywhere for All Your Family (Spring 2023)
It is versatile enough to fit any type of bicycle.

Here are some of the Thule T2 Classic’s features

Design

This fully adjustable bike frame is made out of black aluminum and fits securely to your back bumper. When not in use, it folds vertically up the back of vehicle with a simple press of a lever. If you have to open the trunk while the bikes are still in place, the rack tilts back at 45 degrees to give you access. You need to open the trunk door without having to remove the bike rack.

Compatibility

This bike rack is ideal for carbon frames, mountain, downhill, and bikes with fat tires.

Versatility

There are few bike racks that rival the versatility of this bike rack, that can fit up to 20 – 29″ wheels and up to 5″ tires without adapters.

Durability

The Thule T2 Classic is made out of aluminum, which is light, strong, and lasts a long time. You can read more about aluminum’s advantages over other materials in this article by Drive Aluminum. Trusted Source Durability | Drive Aluminum Aluminum’s strength and durability are trusted in the most extreme transportation environments, where strength, safety, and durability are critical. Security

Once you have affixed your bike wheel in the clamp and tightened the wheels with the Snugtite plastic knots, you can be assured that your bike will stay securely in the carrier.  The Thule T2 Classic includes a locking hitch pod that attaches onto the end of the threaded hitch pin to prevent theft of the bike rack. However, the unit does not have an inbuilt way of locking your bike to the rack’s rails. Locks can be purchased separately and installed into the arms, which secure over the bike’s front tire.

Ease of Use

Bikes can be secured to this bicycle rack within a matter of minutes, however many consumers report that because of its 40lb weight and overall awkwardness, it is cumbersome to remove the bike rack from the car. You may also have to remove the fenders to make the bikes fit next to each other on the rack.

Ease of Storage

Once removed from your vehicle, the Thule T2 Classic folds nicely in half and can be stored in the back of your car or in a garage

Ease of Assembly

Thule T2 Classic Review - Take Bikes Everywhere for All Your Family (Spring 2023)
Eliminate bike interference by adjusting side to side to create generous spacing between bike mounts.

One criticism of this bike rack is that on some cars, the rack conceals a view of the license plate, which can earn you a traffic ticket in many places in the world. In many jurisdictions, the entire plate should be plainly visible, not just the license numbers. In this news story from Calgary Trusted Source Calgarian stunned after receiving ticket for licence plate blocking bike rack | CTV News A Calgary man has found himself the recipient of a $155 ticket after a Calgary Police Service member determined the bike rack on the back of his SUV obscured the licence plate. calgary.ctvnews.ca , Alberta in Canada, you can read all about how a person was shocked to receive a ticket because his bike rack blocked his license plate. Before you buy, make sure that you can position to prevent covering the license plate.

Value

This tray-style hitch mount task is just a bit less expensive than similar models at $550 US. Similar models can hold a 60-pound weight-loadcell for $700 or more.

Other features

Here are some other features of the Thule t2 classic 9044

PROS CONS
  • Rack tilts back at 45 degrees
  • Ratcheting arms make loading the bikes easy
  • Low loading prevents back strain
  • Lacks the tilt remote that other models have
  • Takes patience to assemble
  • May obscure license plate

Conclusion

Our Thule t2 classic 9044 review found that most people choose this type of bike rack because bikes can be placed in a way that prevents them from ever touching each other. This greatly minimizes the risk of damage to the paint job of the bike. Thule 12 classic has been on the market for ten years and is a tried and true favorite, even though it is awkward. Probably the most important thing revealed by our Thule Classic review is that if you live in a place that forbids any obstruction of the view, it would be a great choice.
